The history of the accounting undergraduate program can be traced back to the predecessor of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, which was founded in 1906 as the Accounting Department of HJU (Hujiang University). Famous accounting professors such as Pan Xulun, Zheng Shicha and Gong Qinghao had taught in the Accounting Department of HJU.

Our university is one of the universities in China which established the undergraduate program of accounting in engineering universities, and also one of the early universities in Shanghai to establish the accounting program. It has trained more than 7,000 undergraduate graduates (including 2 international accounting majors in cooperation with Syracuse University).

Educational Objectives

Oriented towards the accounting profession, we cultivate high-level, high-quality, application-oriented accounting professionals with good professional ethics, legal discipline and the ability to learn in a changing business environment, innovation, coordination and communication, strategic awareness, as well as leadership potential in accounting, systematic knowledge and skills in modern accounting, auditing, financial management and related fields, sufficient understanding of accounting practices, and strong ability to solve practical problems.

Research Achievements

In the past three years, the accounting faculty members presided over one project of National Natural Science Foundation of China and five projects at provincial and ministerial level. published 72 articles as the first author, 8 textbooks and reference books.

Graduates 

The highest ranking undergraduate major in our university in terms of employment rate, accounting has a employment rate of nearly 98%. Our accounting graduates are employed primarily in financial institutions (joint-stock large banks), industrial enterprises, commercial enterprises, accounting firms, consulting companies, institutions, and government agencies (primarily concentrated in finance, taxation, and other departments), where they are engaged in accounting, auditing, financial management, accounting consulting, investment consulting, management accounting, and asset evaluation. Some graduates are working in managerial and executive roles, such as financial manager, financial director, chief accountant, deputy general manager, general manager, and chairman, in appropriate management roles. Historical employment situation demonstrates that our accounting graduates have favorable work prospects and opportunities for professional advancement.
