As spring is coming with breeze and warmth, the Shanghai’s battle against the epidemic is entering the critical period. The employment of fresh graduates has become an issue facing the teachers and students of USST-BS. What can graduates do with their employment in such a critical time combating the epidemic? To address this issue, on May 2, the Graduate Counselor Office of the USST-BS held Anti-epidemic and Employment-online sharing and exchange session from 15:00-17:00, which provided a valuable opportunity to learn from the employment experience of predecessors. This was also a peer education on future employment for the junior college students. The event was hosted by the 2nd Party Branch of Business Administration, and Chen Peng, a graduate counselor and secretary of the Party Branch, presided over the meeting.
Mr. Chen Peng firstly informed and analyzed the current employment situation in each major in PowerPoint presentation. Due to the impact of the epidemic and lockdown policy, the employment of graduate students progressed at a slower pace since one month ago. The pre-post-epidemic difference was significant. A detailed analysis of the unemployment was presented. He further, summarized the main reasons for failing to secure a job, made suggestions on the subsequent employment plan for the unemployed students, and announced the employment policies of the school.
Next, eight fresh graduates shared their employment experiences and insights. Gu Jiayu, majoring in public management, outlined two of her employment experiences: to consider problems from multiple perspectives; to grasp the time and opportunities at the moment; Pan Jing, majoring in business management, based on her own experience, set the order of employment consideration as industry first and then job title; Sha Qianru, majoring in logistics engineering, summarized the employment status of students in her class and suggested students to pay more attention to opportunities outside the province. Chen Shawen of Traffic Engineering, based on her own experience, suggested that students need to set a good target in advance, do a good job planning, make use of the online platform and keep a positive attitude; Chen Hongben of Tourism Management shared his experience in interviewing and hoped that everyone would get their preferred offers soon. Guo Haowei of Technology Economics and Management motivated the unemployed students to adjust their mentality in time and believe that all the difficulties they have experienced so far are stepping stones on the road to shine; Sun Hao of Master of Transportation shared from the perspective of entrepreneurship, combining his own entrepreneurial experience to tell everyone to be brave and innovative.
After the sharing, Mr. Chen Peng made a presentation on the current situation of battle against the epidemic, and answered to the common concerns of the students, so as to relieve their psychological pressure. He encouraged the students to maintain a positive spirit at this stage and to strengthen their confidence that through our joint efforts, they would be able to beat the epidemic, resume their normal campus life as soon as possible, and find their ideal jobs and eliminate their greatest worries before graduation. The meeting lasted for 2 hours and achieved the expected results.
